Access to NHS dentistry on the Isle of Wight has been boosted by the opening of two new dental practices .
The Cross Street Dental Centre in Ryde or the Whitecross Dental Care surgery in Freshwater were officially opened last week by the Department of Healths chief dental officer, Barry Cockcroft.
They practices were set up under a joint scheme by NHS Isle of Wight and Integrated Dental Holdings, and are expected to increase access to NHS dentists this year for around 12,000 local residents.
Primary care senior commissioning manager, Caroline Morris, said she was delighted with the new NHS centres, and added that over £4 million has been spent by the NHS on improving the islands dental services during the last four years.
Patients can register for NHS dentistry at the new practices by calling the Islands Dental Helpline on 0845 050 8345, or by going online at Hampshiredentalhelpline.nhs.uk.
Meanwhile, up to 5,000 NHS patients in East Yorkshire are to benefit from a new NHS dental practice in the small town of Snaith.
The surgery has been granted planning permission by the town council and will start accepting patients in the spring.
