Children in South Gloucestershire have some of the healthiest and brightest teeth in the country, according to new research.
A recent survey by the NHS examined dental decay in roughly 140,000 five-year-olds in state schools across 147 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and found that kids in South Gloucestershire had the highest levels of good dental health .
It revealed that over two-thirds (69 per cent) of the children had no obvious dental decay, fillings or missing teeth due to decay, compared to just 20.8 per cent who had such dental health problems .
Dr Chris Payne, director of NHS South Gloucestershire, said it was good news that the region was doing so well at maintaining such high standards of dental care, especially as many patients were concerned by the lack of access to NHS dental services .
NHS South Gloucestershire provides health services to the 246,000 people who live in Yate, Severnvale and Kingswood: the three localities that make up South Gloucestershire.
