A dentist is offering other dental practitioners across the UK the chance to use a state-of-the-art CAT scanner .
Oxford-based dentist Dr Julian Perry has installed the mobile, three-dimensional scanner in the back of a Volkswagen van so that it can be taken to smaller dental practices or used at a patients’ home or workplace.
The Ewoo Pan Duo 3D scanner is used in dental implant work and other areas that require three-dimensional internal imaging .
"It's going to be faster, safer and more efficient than anything else currently available to UK practices," said Dr Perry.
"Clinicians will book an appointment for their patients online. The radiography technician will arrive, carry out the scan and be able to hand over the results then and there."
"We're talking about minutes for a process which, with booking hospital appointments and waiting for results, has previously taken weeks."
The mobile service is being offered at less than half the price of a traditional hospital scan and patients can arrange a mobile visit for anywhere in the UK within a week of booking, including evenings and weekends.
"I really think this service will make a great contribution to British implant dentistry," Dr Perry added.
Earlier this month the state-of-the-art scanner landed the Dr Perry the title of "Most Innovative Dentist 2009" at the 2009 Private Dentistry Awards.
