Access to NHS dental care in Nottingham has been boosted by the news that two new NHS dental practices are to open in the city, along with the introduction of a mobile dental unit .
The proposed practices in the Bulwell and Bilborough areas would each take on 5,000 new patients a year, while the caravan-style mobile unit would target areas where people are choosing not to visit the dentist, or waiting until they are in pain for help.
The number of people being seen to by NHS dentists in Nottingham has steadily been dropping for a number of years, with health bosses saying many residents are being put off by a lack of services close to home.
In related news, a Nottingham dentist who altered a patients records to avoid legal action has been struck off tby he GDC ( General Dental Council ).
A GDC hearing heard how Homayoun Esfandiary, from the Seven Dental practice in Mansfield, deliberately falsified the records of one of his patients in order to protect his position and prevent the patient from recovering damages for professional negligence .
