A new online training course aimed at helping dental care professionals advise patients on oral health has been launched in the UK.
The Oral Health Education for Dental Care Professionals course guides online participants through 27 ‘bitesize' modules, which consist of mini-lectures, animated videos and diagrams.
Over the eight week course, participants are supported by a tutor and provided with a textbook, revision notes and mock exams .
Students are also required to identify and, in dialogue with a supervising dentist, work with patients who would especially benefit from dental health advice.
Once the course has been successfully completed, they will each receive a National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate in Oral Health Education - the nationally recognised qualification.
The internet-based course has been developed by the British Dental Association (BDA) in collaboration with OHE Southwest, Bristol, which has been running successful oral health education programmes since 1996.
The course costs £475 per student, although a concessionary rate of £425 per student is available for staff employed by BDA members.
