NHS dentistry in Surrey has been boosted by a £6 million cash injection that will provide access to a dentist for over 70,000 extra patients in the region.
The extra cash will be used to increase capacity at NHS dentists based in Ashtead, Epsom, Ewell, Leatherhead, Tadworth and all other parts of the county.
The dentists have also received £800,000 worth of grants from NHS Surrey to improve infection control and hygiene equipment.
Jonathan Perrott, dental lead at NHS Surrey said one of the main priorities for the PCT is to make it "easier for patients to see an NHS dentist ".
"I'm delighted to announce that we're investing £6million to help patients right across the county," he commented. "The money will make it easier to see an NHS dentist for an extra 70,000 people."
"We've got dentists who are able to see new NHS patients right now, so if you're looking for an NHS dentist ring the Surrey dental helpline on 0845 271 2040 to find out about dentists near you."
Perrott added that the new investment means spending on dental services for Surrey residents has exceeded £49million for 2009/10.
